Spain imported a record volume of tomatoes from Morocco in 2020

According to data prepared by Hortoinfo from the Estacom statistical service, Spain imported 165.32 million kilos of tomatoes in 2021 for 152.03 million euro, and an average price of € 0.92/kg. Morocco was its biggest supplier with 78.05 million kilos, the largest volume of Moroccan tomatoes that Spain has ever imported in a year, 14.26% more than in the previous year and 307 % more in the last ten years. Tomato imports from Morocco totaled 78.31 million euro, at an average price of € 1/kg. Portugal was Spain's second-biggest tomato supplier in 2020 with 33.15 million kilos worth 31.77 million euro and an average price of € 0.96/kg. The Netherlands ranked third with 30.73 million kilos worth 24.5 million euros and an average price of € 0.8/kg. It was followed by Belgium with a volume of 14.58 million kilos of tomatoes worth 9.23 million euro and an average price of € 0.63/kg. France ranked fifth with 4 million kilos worth 3.34 million euro, and an average price of € 0.84/kg.
